Most importantly he enjoys helping people and businesses, find solutions to their business problems and tax issues.
He specializes in small and mid-business, computer system modernization, accounting services, tax compliance and tax planning. His client base includes individuals mid and high net worth, small and mid-size business in the professional services, medical, consulting, real estate and construction industry. Helps startup business with the right form of entity and federal and state compliance. He is involved in trust and estate accounting and tax preparation, non-profit accounting, pension accounting and filing, individual tax preparation and review, multi-level tiered partnerships tax preparation and controversy experience, including offer compromise.
George Sotrillis gives back to the community by donating his accounting skills to Corona Community Ambulance Corps, Inc., and several other charitable originations. He with his family, participates in the cancer walks with his family scheduled at Jones Beach. A father of triplet boys he enjoys baseball, movies, people, art and reading books.
George Sotrillis graduated from Pace university with a BS in Accounting and Tax. During his college years George Sotrillis, worked in the family business, an importer, exporter and apparel manufacturing business of well-known designers. Due to the manufacturing shifted to Canada and China, George Sotrillis continued his career in accounting, working full time for ESO Originals. A multi-million-dollar importer and manufacturer of sneakers and shoes. He helped to develop a viable system with the CFO and controller, tying in their Accounting System with the Accounts Payable Department and the Receiving Department. This helped more accurately determine inventory on hand and Accounts Payable. He was helped in the design of a more accurate reorder system for their new on time inventory.
Graduating from PACE University, he worked as consultant in the tax department directly with the tax manager and CFO of First City Industries, a Belzberg owned company, specializing in real estate development and acquisition. He was responsible for tax research and determining inter-company transactions. His tax research was used to determine the best method of tax preparation for consolidated purposes and multi-state tax compliance. The consulting services were continued through the time that George Sotrillis joined with a mid-size CPA firm in midtown Manhattan, Jerry Kindman and Associates. This firm specialized in multi partners, real estate partnerships, nursing home development and management. The firm prepared roughly 6000 individual income tax returns during a time that the industry was not fully computerized, but in transition.
He decided to leave the CPA environment and purse a career in private sector. He took the position of Controller and CFO for the owners of several Restaurants. He was in charge of computer system modernization, budgets and food cost determination. The computer setup system helped reduce costs by more than 12% a year. This was a great benefit during a time that Nassau County’s restaurant Industry took hit. The Internal Revenue Service reduced the entertainment and meal expense deduction to 50%. This was also a time that businesses started to moved out of Nassau county. As CFO, he was also responsible for working directly with the outside CPA firm in the tax preparation of the restaurant business and real estate entities.
George Sotrillis later, went to go work for a cabinet manufacturer as their Controller and CFO, helping transform their accounting department. The company, which was located originally in Brooklyn, successfully completed a bond offering with the SBA and the City of NY Development Corp. This gave them the necessary funds to purchase real property in Ridgewood, NY and expanded their import and manufacturing capabilities, as well as their distribution center. Their sales substantial increased by more than 20% a year and costs were cut by more than 10% a year over a 3-year period. The company expanded into importing of new products from China.
George Always managed to work part time after hours during tax season to keep his tax skills sharp. He consulted during tax season for several CPA firms as well as companies such as RG Brenner and Tax Masters of Brooklyn.
In 2000, George Sotrillis went back to pursue a career in the CPA industry in order to enhance his accounting and tax skills. He worked for Weiss & Allen CPAs as senior staff accountant. Their client base was diverse, from high net worth individuals, stock brokers, manufactures and multi-level partnership joint ventures in the real estate partnerships. He worked directly with clients. His was responsible for reviewing books and records, tax preparation and tax planning and for overseeing other staff accountants and clerical employees. His experience expanded rapidly at this firm. He became involved in audits of real estate co-ops and condos. He also worked on tax planning, and compliance for estate, trusts, non-profits.
After leaving Weiss & Allen CPAs, in 2001, George Sotrillis went to consult for Sidney Yoskowitz & Co CPAs. First in their pension department and later expanded to working with clients directly in reviewing their books and records and preparing their tax returns. George Sotrillis was responsible for helping the firm comply with the state and federal mandate on e-filing tax returns. He also developed a system to comply with the state requirements and helped expand the electronic filing and payment of not only state, city. He was responsible for overseeing various staff and clerical persons, helping them understand how to prepare tax returns and reviewing their work as well as scheduling work. He maintains client relations and constantly reviewed tax planning strategies as well as tax research for the benefit of clients.
Today George Sotrillis consultants for formerly known Sidney Yoskowitz & Associates and maintains his own book of business taking care not only of his clients but those of the CPA firms he consults.
He has currently been given the opportunity to expand in the real estate business and is looking forward to expanding his relationship in that business as well as expanding his own tax and accounting services.
