On Tuesday, May 28, Dr. Charles Simone, II, was the distinguished guest on the Mount Sinai Medical Show hosted by Fay Kozas.
The doctor informed the worldwide audience about the high-tech New York Proton Center, the first cancer center of its kind in New York State.
Proton therapy uses 3D imaging to target high doses of radiation to the affected area with minimal impact to the surrounding organs and tissues.
It works by damaging the DNA of the targeted cells which then lose their ability to reproduce, causing the tumor to shrink. Proton therapy is also
effective in treating the most challenging tumors.
Dr. Simone is Chief Medical Officer, New York Proton Center and Professor of Radiation Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

of people with hearing loss as they attempt hide it from those around them. In the course of the medical show, the doctor informed the worldwide audience
about cochlear implantation, a medical innovation that provides direct electrical stimulation to the auditory nerve in the inner ear, thus restoring hearing.
Dr. Sislian is a Cochlear Implant Audiologist at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai.

Dr. Frank spoke about autism, a neuropsychiatric disorder, where the person affected has problems in social interaction and communication, and exhibits repetitive behaviors.
Of great significance is the connection between autism and the Shank 3 gene. The alteration of the Shank 3 gene interferes with appropriate nerve cell function in the brain.
In closing, Dr. Frank gave the parents of autistic children advice on coping, but above all, the doctor reminded the parents about the importance of also taking care of themselves
so that they may be emotionally strong to care for their children.
Dr. Frank is a Pediatric Neurologist and a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Murthy specifically spoke about congenital heart defects children are born with when the heart does not develop normally while the baby is growing in the womb.
Many of these children will require a heart transplant in the future. Dr. Murthy also addressed the psychological aspect of the situation. He explained how parents prepare
their children for heart transplantation surgery. In closing, the doctor discussed the advancements and innovations in heart assist devices.
Dr. Murthy is Director of Pediatric Heart Transplantation, Mount Sinai Hospital and Assistant Professor of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine

Dr. Tepper and Dr. Scigliano specialize in hearing loss in children and adults. During the course of the medical show, Dr. Tepper and Dr. Scigliano informed the worldwide audience about The Ear Institute, one of the few centers that offers early intervention to infants and toddlers with hearing loss. The doctors use a family-centered approach, individual therapies, and small parent/child groups, all of which give the parents the necessary tools to help their child.

The doctor spoke about the aortic valve. The aortic valve closes off the left ventricle and opens to allow the oxygen-rich blood to leave the heart to the aorta
and to the rest of the body. If it presents with either stenosis or calcification, the defective valve is replaced with either a tissue or mechanical valve.
Dr. Pawale also briefly referred to the aneurysm of the ascending aorta and stressed the importance of watchful waiting.

explained how cancer immunology utilizes the immune system to kill the cancer cells. Consequently, immunology is transforming the treatment of
cancer away from traditional treatment such as chemotherapy.
Dr. Merad is Director of the Precision Immunology Institute and Mount Sinai Chair Cancer Immunology, and Director of Human Immune Monitor Center.
Dr. Merad is Professor of Oncological Science Medicine (Hematology/Oncology) Division, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Την Τρίτη, 12 Φεβρουαρίου, εκλεκτός καλεσμένος στην εκπομπή του Νοσοκομείου Mount Sinai με την Φαίη Κοζά ήταν ο παγκοσμίως διακεκριμένος Dr. Matthew Swan.
Ο γιατρός επικεντρώθηκε στο Πάρκινσον, μία νευροεκφυλιστική ασθένεια και μία από τις πιο συνηθισμένες δυσλειτουργίες του νευρολογικού συστήματος.

On Tuesday, February 12, Dr. Matthew Swan was the distinguished guest on the Mount Sinai Medical Show hosted by Fay Kozas.
The doctor spoke about Parkinson's, a neurodegenerative disease and one of the most common nervous system disorders.
Dr. Swan mentioned that the cause is really unknown since it can be due to a gene or age, or even to environmental factors.
In the course of the medical show, Dr. Swan informed the worldwide audience about Levodopa, the most effective drug on the market as it manages
to keep the symptoms under control.
Dr. Swan is Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Division of Movement Disorders, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
